Caring And Cleaning Of Granite Counter Tops
Granite countertops are one of the most beautiful and popular alternatives for kitchen renovations. Of course, after acquiring such a majestic igneous rock as your counter top, it goes without saying that it must be cared for. Yes, granite is the most durable and long-lasting option, but neglecting it in your kitchen might result in an ugly chip or stain.
How Should you Clean Granite Counter Tops?
The use of vinegar, Windex, or bleach on a regular basis will dull the granite and damage the sealant. Instead, a small amount of soap and water should be enough.
Make a nice lather with dish soap and warm water on a sponge and start cleaning. Granite may be damaged if abrasive pads are used. A gentle clean with soap is sufficient.
What Should I not do?
Spills:
Spills on the countertop may be a regular occurrence in the kitchen. Especially when you have kids. The quicker you wipe them up, the less potential damage to your countertops.
Blot the spill with a soft cloth or paper towel as quickly as possible. Then wipe the surface with some soap solution and dry with a clean cloth. Remember to blot rather than wipe, as wiping might spread the spill. Spills like coffee, vinegar and generally anything containing acid can stain the counter top. Do not leave these spills to dry.
Heat:
Granite is incredibly long-lasting. Although laying a hot pot or pan on it for a few seconds will not harm it, it is recommended to place a trivet beneath it. Especially if you need to set a warm pan down for more than a few seconds. Even though granite is extremely resistant, severe temperature fluctuations can damage or even shatter stone.
Avoid the problem by placing anything between the hot pan and the counter surface. Normal kitchen chores such as baking in the oven and cooking on the stovetop will not create enough heat to harm the granite. Nevertheless, the hot pots may remove the sealant coat from the surface, leaving it prone to future stains.
